What is Yield?
Yield (rendimento) is the percentage return that an investment generates in relation to its price. The most common is the Dividend Yield (DY), which shows how much a stock or FII pays in dividends per year compared to its current price.
Fórmula
Dividend Yield = (Dividends paid in the last 12 months ÷ Current price) × 100
Exemplo
- Stock costs R$ 50
- Paid R$ 4 in dividends in the last year
- DY = 4 ÷ 50 × 100 = 8% per year
What is a good Yield?
| Range | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| 0-3% | Low (company reinvests profits) |
| 3-6% | Moderate (balance) |
| 6-10% | High (good payer) |
| 10%+ | Very high (may be unsustainable) |
Cuidados
- Very high Yield may indicate that the price has fallen (company with problems)
- Past Yield does not guarantee future Yield
- Companies can cut dividends at any time
- Compare Yield with companies in the same sector
Yield em FIIs
Real Estate Investment Funds (FIIs) usually have higher yields than stocks (0.7-1% per month). They are popular among those seeking monthly income.
